Project Titan - Marshlands Biome Skyship & Skydock

This mushroom skyship and skydocks was created for the Unreal Engine Project Titan Art Jam, which ran from March 28 – June 7 2024.
The project was a good kickstart to get back into game art and game development, after a long hiatus due to RL issues.

It was an invaluable experience, as I got to work with a huge community of artists on this massive collaborative project, which had over 4000 active artists.

The idea for the skyship is a vessel that is made from materials sourced in its native biome the Marshlands.
It can function as a flying vessel, land vehicle and as a ship, depending on the situation.
Lift and thrust is provided by magic crystals at each corner of the vessel, which is controlled at the helm.

Working on the skyship, which is a large-scale asset, I learned how to use tiling textures and make extensive use of trim sheets to keep the texture resolution sharp, while using smaller texture maps instead of using massive textures which incur a huge memory overhead cost especially in a project with thousands of artists.
Artists were encouraged to share resources and art assets, and re-use as much as possible, and I went into the project with this in mind.

The rough skyship concept was provided by another artist in the Marshland biome, while the designs for all the cranes and gantries are based off real medieval machinery or from scratch.

Most of the textures on the skyship itself are using trim sheet materials from another artist, Sander Winkeler (https://www.artstation.com/sanderwinkeler), and the crystal material also from another artist in the project. The machinery and crane parts also share the same trimsheets as those on the skyship.

Most of the skydock maintenance props are by other artists, except the woodworking and stoneworking tools on the tables which I modelled, and textured also using the trim sheets by Sander Winkeler.

All the ropes are from another artist, who made a spline-based rope for the project, which I used to create all the rigging for the cranes and gantries.
The skydock platform also uses models and textures from other artists in the project.
